Definitive guide to painting interior walls
Step 1 - prepare the walls
No house has perfectly smooth walls without impurities, so the first step to prepare a new wall for painting, will be to remove impurities using a large spatula, then applying a coat of fixer-sealer to smooth any gaps that have been left to remove impurities. The same if there are any holes or cracks. If the wall is made of plaster and does not have any layer of paint, you never have to sand it, since it would leave the wall marked and when painting the scratches would be seen.
If it is a wall with one or more layers of old paint, we have to use the spatula to remove possible bubbles or chipping that have been created.
On these old walls there may be stains that have been created over time caused by smoke, mold, mildew, fungus or any other external factor. These stains will have to be removed simply with water and detergent.
Step 2 - Repair of wall imperfections
The walls usually have small holes generated by bubbles or some other imperfection. For these cases we will proceed to use a spatula with putty to cover them. Once they are covered we will use a sandpaper to reduce them and to eliminate reliefs. Then we will pass a brush to eliminate the dust that has been left.
step 3 - Choice of paint type and colors
There is a wide variety of paints: plastic, acrylic, vinyl, … all of them are water-based, the best for interior painting because they are easy to apply and the smell goes away in a short time. The finishes can be glossy, matte or semi-matte.
Step 4 - Applying the paint
